Features

  • Official libwebp encoder compiled to WebAssembly
  • Transparency preserved
  • Does not depend on your browser’s own WebP support
  • Batch processing and ZIP download

Why WebP?

WebP, developed by Google, supports lossy and lossless compression as well as transparency. Google’s published comparisons found lossy WebP files roughly 25–34% smaller than comparable JPEGs; real results vary from image to image. All current major browsers display WebP, which makes it a strong choice for websites.

Consistent encoding in every browser

Not every browser can create WebP files natively. SlimMyFile ships the official libwebp encoder as WebAssembly, so WebP output does not depend on your browser’s own encoder.

Tips for the best results

A quality between 70 and 80 is a strong default for photos. For graphics and screenshots with sharp text, use 85 or higher, or keep PNG.

Your privacy

Files are read and processed by your browser on this device. They are not uploaded, stored or shared, and closing the page discards them. Processing speed and the largest file you can handle depend on your device.

Frequently asked questions

Can every app open WebP files?

All modern browsers can, and most current operating systems and image editors do too. Some older software may not, so keep JPEG when you need maximum compatibility.

Does WebP keep transparency?

Yes. Transparent PNG images converted to WebP keep their transparency.
